The Strength Within to Do The Thing
There are things you want to do in your life. I don’t know what these things are for you. But you have ambitions whether you share them with people or not. And maybe you tell yourself that you don’t want to chase these dreams or that it is too hard, or too unlikely to ever accomplish them. So you tell yourself you cannot do the things you want to do in order to put them aside. And you begin to accept a life which does not make you fulfilled or satisfied but it is easy and comfortable.
Does this sounds like you? Because it sounds a lot like me.
We tend to avoid doing what we want to do out of a fear of failing. We think that accomplishing our goals is so unlikely from the get-go that we’re convinced we will fail before we even try. And so we don’t try because we feel there is no point. We do not have what it takes. We don’t think we have what it takes because we haven’t shown evidence of having what it takes.
However, if you never try do the thing, you will never learn whether you have what it takes to do it. If you never speak in public, you won’t find out for sure whether you can or not. If you don’t try to do one push-up you won’t know if you have what it takes to do 50. And if you don’t go out on your own you’ll never know if you are able to be alone and still be happy.
The point is, we all of strength we are unaware of. We all have this untapped potential inside of us which we have never felt because we have never been challenged enough to use it.
The comfort of your everyday life is stopping you from fulfilling this potential. You will not know your true strength until you put yourself in a situation to use it.
There is something in your life right now that you want to do but are afraid to do. Maybe you are afraid of failing or afraid of what other people might think. It doesn’t matter what the reason is. The important thing is that you believe it will not work out and so you are not actively pursuing your dream.
You need to do the thing. You need to do it for the good of your soul. When you do the thing, even if you fail, you will understand that you have not been living in a real sense until now. You will understand that you were living in comfort and ease to avoid feelings of rejection and failure. But in doing this you have kept yourself from being truly alive.
Maybe you want to quit your job and start a business. Maybe you want to travel, or write a book, or put out some music.
Whatever your thing is – you need to do it.
