Festivals as a Reset
This blog is a labour of love, and it will always be free. Thousands of people read every post which is incredible. And if just 100 people donate €2 it means that I’ll be able to continue doing all of this for another year. So if you like the work, it would mean the world to me if you considered making a donation. Thank you to everyone who already has this year. There’s no expectations, as ever, and I hope you have a lovely week. Donate here
There is also now a Thoughts Too Loud Podcast!
I always come back from festivals feeling reset. Festivals, for some reason, are like a page break. Even if I’m only at one for a short period of time. I don’t know if it’s spiritual. Maybe it’s simply that festivals, and all they encompass, are so far removed from my normal schedule that it rebalances things. Everything feels new, clearer. Whatever it is, it helps, especially in times of difficulty.
I performed on the main stage at Electric Picnic last weekend. That feels significant. It was the same stage that Fontaines, CMAT, Lewis Capaldi performed on. It feels big. And yet it also feels manageable. I wasn’t overwhelmed by it. That seems like a good sign. It makes me feel like I’m capable.
So much can change in such a short amount of time. For better, or for worse. Mostly things change in good and bad ways simultaneously. Which can feel strange. Because people who observe may only see the good change, and not consider the bad change. And so they’ll assume all is well and wonderful, even though you might be struggling. I think that’s something to keep in mind. Because it’s easy to dismiss the wellbeing of other’s when you assume everything is always good and easy.
Just some thoughts for this week, sorry it was late, but it’s better than never writing it down at all.
