Are You Well?

This blog is a labour of love, and it will always be free. Over 1,000 people read every post which is incredible. And if just 100 people donate €2 it means that I’ll be able to continue doing all of this for another year. So if you like the work, it would mean the world to me if you considered making a donation. Thank you to everyone who already has this year. There’s no expectations, as ever, and I hope you have a lovely week. Donate here

There is also now a Thoughts Too Loud Podcast!

This time of year is chaotic. None us really know what to be doing with ourselves. All decisions are acceptable. You can be gearing up to take on 2025. Or maybe you’re still driving on the Christmas session. Perhaps you’re retreating into hibernation, keeping the head down and the mind quiet.

With the end of the year in sight, it’s natural to feel a little pressure. There are many varieties of it. There’s this expectation to have all these goals laid out for the year ahead. You have to have a plan. You have to have big aspirations. This is the assumed expectation.

But like, in fairness, it’s the middle of winter. Nature is resting, and will be for another few months at least. I don’t understand why we think we’re not part of that. We are nature, so it logically tracks that, maybe, we shouldn’t be trying to drive it on come January 1st. Perhaps we should be resting, laying low, protecting our energy for Springtime.

I think we’ve been duped into thinking New Years Day is pivotal by capitalism. You have to be better, do better. Change your body, change your mind, change your focus. Buy things to help you do it. It’s a lot of waffle, and we’ve all already eaten enough.

What if it’s just another Winter’s day? You don’t have to change anything so drastically, so quickly. Don’t let the pressure to do so get to you. Become an outlier and ignore all the shite. The hustle culture vultures will hate to see you coming if you decide to ignore the expectations to change on January 1st.
