Give Encouragement Enthusiastically

This blog is a labour of love, and it will always be free. Over 1,000 people read every post which is incredible. And if just 100 people donate €2 it means that I’ll be able to continue doing all of this for another year. So if you like the work, it would mean the world to me if you considered making a donation. Thank you to everyone who already has this year. There’s no expectations, as ever, and I hope you have a lovely week. Donate here

There is also now a Thoughts Too Loud Podcast!

Give encouragement enthusiastically. Don’t hoard it. Well, do if you want, but I’d recommend against it.

If you see something online that you like, tell the person. Share your friend’s small business. If you’re an artist and your friends are artists, share their work. Make sure people see it. You might have the feeling that other people doing well reduces the chances of your own success, but this isn’t true.

If you can help people, help them. Don’t gatekeep information that might help someone else move the needle. There was a time when you needed help, too. And there’ll be more times when you’ll need it. So, if you can help, you should. Do it voluntarily. Be sound about it.

One small comment or message from someone you respect could encourage you to keep going. Maybe you want to pack it in, the path is too difficult. A message from someone slightly further along the same path can harden your resolve. It has for me, many times. So if you have the opportunity to send that message, to encourage someone to keep going, then send it. Don’t live in jealousy. Don’t silently hope for your contemporaries to fail. Bask in their success as if it were your own. Because one day it will be, and you’ll want to know you helped as many people as you could along the way.

And by the way, I’m talking to myself here. That’s why it sounds prescriptive. But if it resonates with you, then pay it forward. Message someone today and tell them you love what they’re doing. Easiest way to make someone’s day a little better.
