Everything You Can’t Control

This blog is a labour of love, and it will always be free. Over 1,000 people read every post which is incredible. And if just 100 people donate €2 it means that I’ll be able to continue doing all of this for another year. So if you like the work, it would mean the world to me if you considered making a donation. Thank you to everyone who already has this year. There’s no expectations, as ever, and I hope you have a lovely week. Donate here

There is also now a Thoughts Too Loud Podcast!

Stress is everything you can’t control.

Crab-legged creature, it doesn’t answer to a name given. It sits, all spindly and unaffected, taking its time to eat the ends of your charred nerves. Its pebble-dash carcass cuts yours palms, bloodies your wrists, and yet you won’t let it go – why won’t you let it go?

All the things outside your control steal your presence. They are bright lights. Terrific laminations. Lifting your breath and taking you away from where you are.

Your life doesn’t wait for you to return. It trickles on. And while life is long, it will gush from you if you don’t stay with it, in this moment. Feeling your skin move the air, your hands perform daily miracles, your eyes seeing creation, your ears perceiving what it means to be alive.

Getting sucked into these externals is easy. It’s so easily done.

A fine line to cross, a line faded and scraped away for being thread on so often.

Crossing it contorts your understanding. It corrupts perspective. You carry things never designed for you to carry. All of this weight will make you smaller, bitter.

Resentment will trickle through the tracks like rainfall.

The stress of not feeling welcome is not yours to carry. Move past it to places that cherish your existence.

Chasing belonging only makes it run.
